One of the things I kind of liked in 2012 was trying to get out to nicer places at least once a month for dinner. There are so many great places and I tend to keep visiting the same ones over and over. Usually finding place to go is harder than getting out to them. Wow. It’s been over a year since I’ve updated anything here. I guess that goes to show you how much we’ve moved on to other social media outlets. Still, sometimes a place that is all your own is a Good Thing.

2012 was a cluster fuck on so many levels… but also a time to rally, explore new things, and generally try to get my shit back together. Cluster fuck-ness not withstanding, it was a good year.

I expect more good things from 2013. Less than 18 days in and I’ve already got my name off house and any decade now will be actually divorced. I’ve gotten a marathon in the books, sure she was a little slow but the after party was a blast. I think I may even try another marathon in the fall. Ironman Wisconsin is on the horizon as well a family reunion. Lots of Wisconsin time in 2013.

Today is January 1, 2012. 12! Damn. Time to lay down some resolutions like I do every year. Usually do so-so at keeping them. I mean, they are meant to make you a better person in some way, right? Didn’t do so well in 2011 with that. I had meant to sit up straight and eat veggie at least once a week. Pfft.

This year is water and core exercises. See the theme. Going to try and cut out the smooth and refreshing Diet Coke. Haha! Even I don’t believe that one. No, what I’m aiming to do is drink about 1 oz for every 2 lbs of body weight–or since my fat as weights almost 210 lbs, about 100 ounces a day. For those of you doing the math at home, a little over 12 pints. A shit-load of water, but do-able. That extra water in will mean less cola in… which should be a Good Thing.

Core exercise. Yuck. I hate doing core, but now that USAT feels that I’m 41 and I’ve spent the last 6 months sitting on my fat ass recovering from a busted ankle, I really need it. At least 50 sit-ups (and 10 push-ups) every day. If I’m feeling wild, perhaps some planks in there for good measure. Hopefully it will make a difference.

OBTW: one day in and I’m rocking it!

Ladies, and gentlemen, we have purple. About 6 weeks in and the ankle is starting to do a little better. I’ve been cleared for 50% weight-bearing on the broken side. Flexibility is still an issue and I’m getting tired of using the crutches/hoping everywhere, but it is getting better.

Went for a test drive using the ankle last night. It went really, really well. Much better than I thought it could. I may try again today just to make sure that wasn’t a fluke. You never know, right? Still this means I’ll have a chance to get around a little more–or at least to PT which I need to start up next week. Hell, I may even try to get into work… but don’t really want to miss the Le Tour.

Can you feel it? Three weeks post-surgery and this is the latest of my right ankle. You can really see they look like giant bolts. Pretty cool. Still can’t put any weight on the thing for at least another two weeks but it is healing up as well as it can. Not looking for to being trapped inside (again) but this must not be rushed. Going to have this ankle for a long time and I don’t want to fuck it up.

On the plus side, surgeon said that if/when I want/need to have the screws seen above remove it is a trivial out-patient procedure. Don’t know if it will come to that. Might be cool just to say that I had them in and then removed.

I’m also hoping to get a copy of the x-ray with the plates and screws in place. I bet it looks cool!

Saw a trailer for the upcoming movie “RED” and it looks pretty great. It is based on the graphic novel (wow, didn’t see that coming) of the same name by Warren Ellis. I also need to point out that “Black Swan” looks really, really, interesting.

Passed this in Yardley, PA on my bike ride today. It looked really cool and +1 for building with shipping/cargo containers. I can’t wait to see what the outside will look like once they are finished.
